ZoneSafe System Overview
ZoneSafe uses RFID technology to set up an invisible 360 degree detection zone around vehicles, assets, crossings and walkways – often referred to as the danger zone or collision risk area.
Using detection antennas, single or multiple zones can be set up with a detection range between 3-9 metres. With a multiple antenna system the detection zones can be set up to provide different configurations including:
- Continuous Detection – complete 360 degree detection zone all around a vehicle.
- Selected or Switched Detection – switch on and off zones at the front, rear or side of a vehicle.
- Variable Detection – multiple detection zones with different detection ranges.
- Extended Detection – detection zones for long and high reach machines located on a moving boom or near to an excavator bucket.
Active RFID tags, either worn by personnel or fitted to vehicles, are detected by the system when they enter or breach the detection zone. Regardless of any obstruction the active tags eliminate driver blind spots and poor visibility issues.
When the ZoneSafe system detects a tag, for example a person or vehicle enters the danger zone; an audible visual alarm is triggered to provide an instant alert. Once a tag is no longer detected in the danger zone or collision risk area, the alarm will stop.
Depending on each ZoneSafe application, the collision risk alarm can be set up in the following locations to provide warning to either the vehicle operator or pedestrians:
- Inside a cab with internal and or external alarm
- Crossing points
The ZoneSafe system has data logging capabilities and all events such as tag detections are logged. This data can be accessed and viewed via a smart phone and our cloud hosted software platform.
The safety of our employees is paramount in our business and DSSP are always looking for initiatives and innovations that can help us provide as safe a working environment as possible. ZoneSafe provides a simple but significant addition to the fleet of trucks here at Featherstone combining ease of use with reliability. We are using this in areas where pedestrians and moving machinery have to work together and it has clearly improved the awareness and confidence of both truck operators and pedestrians. I consider this to be a major addition to our effective health and safety management systems.
We consider this a valuable and reliable tool which will significantly increase safety in our daily operations and aid us in our effort to transform APM Terminals Callao into a very safe place where everyone enjoys working while being safe doing so.
We've been using Zonesafe for nearly 4 years now (fitted on 10 forklifts) and the system has contributed to us having no LTI's or MTI's across two very busy sites. I highly recommend this technology.
